Bath Time with #AveenoBabies

Do you remember the very first time you bathed your baby? How afraid you were of dropping that slippery little thing with the wobbly head? Tee was only 6 pounds, 6 ounces when she was born, and I was horribly nervous I might drop her or hurt her delicate newborn skin. It was the same story when Kay came along two and a half years later, even though she was my second baby.

Since those first days, I’ve learned to relax more and enjoy bath time with my girls. I usually bathe the kids together as it’s supposed to save time (no, not really) and they love playing together (absolutely!). They have tons of bath toys, but the best bath time fun is splashing. Sometimes I’m not sure who’s wetter after their bath, me or them!

I don’t use soap every time I give the kids a bath. I honestly don’t think they need it every time, and I don’t want to strip their skin of natural oils. Most days, just splashing around in the tub and a bit of a scrub with a wash cloth gets them clean. I always cleanse Kay’s diaper area, but the rest gets washed with soap maybe once a week unless someone gets creative with dinner or falls into mud. When I do use soap, I need something gentle that won’t dry out their soft skin.

Aveeno Baby Wash & Shampoo #AveenoBabiesI started using Aveeno Baby Wash & Shampoo a few weeks ago. Its unique oat-based formula is soap-free, tear-free, hypoallergenic, and gentle enough to clean newborns and babies with sensitive skin. Since I’ve been using this baby wash and shampoo, I haven’t noticed any dryness to Kay or Tee’s skin or hair. The scent is kind of nice and fairly light, though I don’t really see the need for added fragrance in my baby products. I love the smell of simply clean baby.

After their bath, the girls always get a few minutes to play together and splash around before I drain the tub. Then it’s time to change into jammies, brush their teeth, and moisturize if needed.

Aveeno Baby Daily Lotion #AveenoBabiesIt’s been a long, cold, wet winter, and Kay’s cheeks are chronically red and chapped from the cold and the wind. With the return of spring, we’ve been spending more time outside, and that gives Kay windburned cheeks as well. So when she gets out of the bath I need something that soothes her poor little red cheeks and absorbs quickly. It’s hard to get lotion on a wriggly toddler!

I’ve been using Aveeno Baby Daily Lotion on Kay’s cheeks every night and it’s really helped. The lotion contains natural colloidal oatmeal to help protect and moisturize skin for 24 hours. This non-greasy formula is paraben-free, dye-free, alcohol-free, hypoallergenic, and non-comedogenic. Surprisingly, Kay doesn’t mind how it feels going on, and it absorbs quickly so there’s less chance of getting lotion all over her pajamas. I really appreciate that it doesn’t contain any fragrance.

Aveeno has been pediatrician recommended for nearly 60 years, and that’s why I feel comfortable using these products on my little ones. Planning to pick some up? Don’t forget to print out your coupon for $1.00 off any Aveeno Baby product.

  • Aw, I love your baby’s smile! We use lotion on my oldest after baths (or showers now; she’s growing up fast!) because her skin gets so dry but my younger two have great skin so they don’t need any extra moisturizers. We love the Aveeno lotion because she has sensitive skin too and reacts to a lot of the scented lotions.

    • Thank you, Viv! I really like that picture too. I’m the same as you – I like that this Aveeno lotion is unscented so less for sensitive skin to react to.

  • I put coconut oil in my kids bath water, it works really well at moisturizing their skin. I quickly soap them up with seventh generation wash or earth mama angel baby wash at the end of the bath. For lotions I use coconut oil or lanolin on the really dry areas. I have tried to use the Aveeno products but they make my kiddos skin worse. The eczema baby lotion had my 3 year old in tears because it hurt and burned so much. I won’t use their products again.

    • I’m glad you were able to find a routine that works for your kids! Eczema is so hard to deal with as an adult, let alone a little one like that. 🙁

  • omg I love the pic,too sweet ! I love that Aveeno lotion is unscented and use it also for myself
